The Men In Her Life: Ithaca's Kitchen Premieres Musical, Angle of the Sun, July 6

Kitchen Theatre Company in Ithaca, NY, will give voice to a new musical about old loves, The Angle of the Sun, July 6-Aug. 5.

Book and lyrics for the musical love story are by KTC artistic director Rachel Lampert. Music is by Larry Pressgrove.

Lindsey Alley and Jesse Bush are featured in the world premiere of the intimate show, which is billed as "a sassy, sexy, two-person musical comedy-drama about a woman's journey through a roller coaster of romantic entanglements and love."

Lampert and Pressgrove previously collaborated on KTC's Tony and the Soprano. Pressgrove recently completed the musical direction and arrangements for [title of show] Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre (a commercial summer run in Manhattan has been announced). He served as conductor of the national tours for The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables as well as music director for Cats on Broadway.

KTC newcomer Lindsey Alley plays poet and painter Jan Frankel. "Jan loves to be at one with nature, painting the landscape, and delighting in the changes in light as the sun crosses the sky each day," according to KTC. "She intends to capture it all-not only in her art, but also in love and in life. Her relationships cover lots of territory - great, disastrous, sexy, and platonic-but, well, never just right."

The Angle of the Sun "takes us on a journey through three decades in Jan's life," in which we meet four of her loves, all played by Kitchen Theatre Company assistant artistic director, Jesse Bush.

The men in her life are Andy, her first love, from freshman year of college in 1966; Carter, a photographer "whose Southern drawl and fiery spirit turn her world upside down some years later"; Seth, "a more conventional partner with whom she banters and spars but never really connects," and then Toby, "an old friend from college who drops back into her life years later."

Opening night is July 8.

Rachel Lampert directs. "After Larry and I finished Tony and the Soprano, we wanted a break from a commedia style plot driven piece - too many strings to tie up by the last note," Lampert told Playbill.com. "We wanted to be released of plot! The Angle of the Sun is a series of 'visits' to the life a of woman, Jan. Beginning in the 1960s when she comes of age - fresh and expecting to change the world - and traveling over the next 20 years watching as she keeps and releases hopes and plans. She has it together in her career, but her ability to be intimate and maintain a relationship - well, there's a lot of work to be done! It's been an exciting couple of months developing this with Larry. The cast Lindsey Alley and Jesse have been very brave and so delightful. I can't wait for an audience."

The scenic and lighting design is by Steve TenEyck and associate designer Solomon Weisbard. Musical accompaniment is by Richard Montgomery. Costume design is by Lisa Boquist. Sound design is by Tim Reppert of REP Studio.
