McCool
Synopsis / Notes
When Muirne has a baby boy, she knows that many people in Ireland will want to see her baby dead - he is, after all, the only son of Cool, the murdered leader of the Irish army, the Fianna. Fearing for the child's safety she abandons him in a forest in the hope that someone will adopt him. Wracked with guilt Muirne asks the baby for forgiveness and promises that she will always be with him.
Two old hags, with nothing much to live for, come across the baby boy and take him as their own. They teach the young boy, whom they name Demne, everything he might need to know in life, and as he grows, he develops a great strength and tremendous sporting skills. When they feel the time is right, the hags tell the boy of his past, and reveal to him that he was found abandoned with a simple note which read "I pray you'll forgive me for what I had to do"...
This modern musical, staged as a rock concert, tells the story of Ireland's mythological wild child Finn McCool and charts his life from his humble beginnings as an abandoned baby to his eventual role as Ireland's first superstar. The show features a non-stop score which relates Finn's adventures through a series of cutting-edge songs, heart-breaking ballads and energetic dance routines.
