Peter Waterman
The writing partnership between Peter Waterman and Peter Waterman had its origins in the mid nineteen sixties when they formed a band. Almost thirty years ago today, Peter and Rod were already collaborating as song writers and establishing their careers in teaching and music.
Peter has been Principal of two country schools in Western Australia and coached tennis and football at a professional level. His love of music also found him singing in many bands touring and recording.
In 1989, while both teaching in schools, Rod and Peter hit upon an idea to write a musical. This idea just kept on developing into a full scale musical "CRUISIN'".
Their desire was, initially, to produce an original Australian musical with a "fifties" flavour that depicted a typical immigrant family of Italians settling into this new culture of kids and rock and roll. They wanted to explore the generation gap between the parents and their kids, and the problems associated with coming to terms with this new society.
This idea has since proven so successful that the writers have now created a universal script which can be adapted to any situation in any country.
By linking the story with truly original songs, Rod and Peter have come up with a unique production dealing with family issues, conflict with relationships, compassion and, ultimately, hope for the future.
